I think it's the right choice to not take them back, these consequences are not only a punishment but also preventative. if we were taking them back then everyone and their mothers who even considered joining would try it out with the mentality of "if I don't like it I'll just come back". this way their decision is permanent, and sure to cut down on potential idiots joining.
